Safe Sedation Practice Validation

Why have an external evaluation?

This validates your sedation practice demonstrating your commitment to quality assurance based on accepted standards. A self-check using a list, either alone or with an adviser not meeting the approved person specification is ineffective. SAAD’s sedation validation options provide a robust and properly structured confirmation of safe sedation provision giving reassurance to both providers and contractors.

Which certificate do I need?

  • The Safe Sedation Certificate (SSC) is the most economical process for single techniques and is a web-based evaluation.

  • SAAD Safe Sedation Practice Scheme is a more detailed evaluation with a facility visit and evaluation of live cases.

Safe Sedation Certificate (SCC)

This certificate is to validate your service by a remote straight forward process.

It is designed for primary care practice, community services and secondary care hospital facilities. The evaluation certificates a location or multiple locations with one or more dental sedation providers, and costs from £950.

Validating safe sedation practice cannot be achieved by simply using a self-assessment checklist whether or not overseen by an NHS Trust, an Integrated Care Board or a corporate body. SAAD only promotes the use of our checklist within a validated assurance programme. Inspection through a defined educational process guided by professionals with an appropriate person specification assures patient safety. External use of edited versions of SAAD’s checklist or historical versions of it are not supported as adequate inspection tools. This service uses experienced dental sedation evaluators only.

This is the outline of the simple process you will follow...
