This interactive webinar is designed for the entire dental team involved in conscious sedation. Using case discussions and scenario-based learning, the session explores how to recognise, prevent, and manage sedation-related complications and medical emergencies in practice.
Attendees will refresh their knowledge of IACSD guidance, early warning signs of deterioration, ABCDE assessment, and the practical use of emergency drugs and equipment. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, communication, and the human factors that underpin safe and effective emergency response.
Whether you’re new to sedation or an experienced team member, this session will build confidence, reinforce team roles, and support compliance with IACSD requirements for annual emergency and sedation-specific training.
- Recognise early clinical signs of deterioration and potential sedation-related complications.
- Apply structured emergency management using the ABCDE approach and current Resuscitation Council UK guidance.
- Identify the causes and management of common sedation emergencies, including respiratory depression, airway obstruction, vasovagal syncope, anaphylaxis, and hypoglycaemia.
- Understand the importance of effective team communication, delegation, and leadership during an emergency.
- Reflect on simulation and case examples to improve preparedness and compliance with IACSD 2020 standards.
