Imran Suida
I graduated in 2008 from the University of Leeds, when having inspirational tutors like Julie Burke and Kandy Ganesan, kindled my interest in both Oral Surgery and conscious sedation.
After completing vocational training (DFT) I completed a house officer post at Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals Trust (MYHT) mentored by David Mitchell, Abdul Dalghous and many other inspirational surgeons. I completed the SAAD conscious sedation course in 2009, and went on to become a Clinical Lead in conscious sedation. In this role I developed a local anxiety management pathway, reducing the number of dentoalveolar procedures requiring a general anaesthetic.
During my time at MYHT I completed a postgraduate certificate in healthcare education. I am also an advanced life support instructor and I run sedation emergency simulation courses for NHS England’s Workforce, Training and Education (NHSEWTE) directorate and also for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. I have also worked to improve access to conscious sedation training in Yorkshire and the Humber alongside NHSE WTE and now have the challenge of helping with this on a national basis. I have led the development of new assessment tools within conscious sedation and will be working to help improve the utilisation and awareness of these tools to assess the ‘entrustability’ of trainees in the near future.
I started specialty training in Oral Surgery in 2017. I took a year out to become a leadership fellow, took part in the Advancing Dental Care Review, led on COVID-19 education within Yorkshire and the Humber and worked alongside the Office of the Chief Dental Officer in the national COVID-19 webinars for dentistry. I completed a postgraduate certificate in healthcare leadership as part of this year out of training.
Since then, I have been fortunate to become a specialist in Oral Surgery and provide conscious sedation and Oral Surgery in both primary and secondary care. I am also looking forward to taking up a Consultant and Clinical Lead role in Oral Surgery at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in January 2024.
Out of work I enjoy keeping active, including long walks in the outdoors and going to the gym. I am also an avid enthusiast of all things BBQ, with my own Instagram page @comeandbbqwithme.
I look forward to joining the Board of Trustees and working alongside SAAD to continue the advancement of knowledge in the safe provision of conscious sedation in dentistry.
