It is with great sadness SAAD reports the passing of Lord Colwyn on 4^th August 2024.

Ian Anthony Hamilton – Smith was known to his friends in SAAD as Tony. He was a hereditary peer elected to remain in the House of Lords in 1999. Until his retirement in 2022 Lord Colwyn spoke regularly in the chamber on health and dentistry in particular. As general dental practitioner in London providing dental sedation he strongly supported sedation in primary care. Lord Colwyn had a number of active interests in dentistry including Dental Protection, The Medical Protection Society and The British Dental Association.

As a jazz musician with his own band who had performed by royal command Tony will be remembered by older SAAD members for his joy of music and sharp wit.
