Dental Nurses

Part One Course

The Part One course is held in London three times a year at the same time as the course for dentists. Although primarily designed for nurses who have experience in sedation techniques the course is also suitable for new members of the dental team.

The course covers the syllabus of the NEBDN Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing (CDSN). A certificate of attendance is awarded at the end of the course. This is a rewarding course, which is both educational and fun.

Part Two course and examination application information

The Part Two course for Dental Nurses follows on from the Part One course and provides intensive revision for the CDSN examination. In order to gain maximum benefit participants should have recently attended the SAAD Part One course or a similar course. It is recommended that candidates attend the Part 1 course no less than three months prior to the Part 2 course to enable sufficient time to complete the Record of Experience and Log sheet. The Part Two course is held at Guy’s hospital in London.

The two courses have been designed to complement each other. Following attendance at both courses candidates should be well prepared to sit the Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing.

Candidates are required complete an application form for the NEBDN examination as part of the application process and will be provided with their Record of Experience template for completion. SAAD offers support and guidance to help with completion of the record of experience and candidates are required to submit draft case studies by email to the SAAD Examination Co-ordinator at regular intervals.

The completed record of experience is to be submitted to SAAD for final marking by the following dates:

March Examination (3rd Saturday in March) – 15th December is the deadline for submissions to SAAD
September Examination (3rd Saturday in September) – 1st July is the deadline for submissions to SAAD

Candidates are required to complete a log sheet of 25 sedation cases to include 5 IV or 5 Inhalation cases as part of the record of experience. SAAD cannot offer clinical placements, therefore it is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that they can access clinical experience.

The examination fee is included in the course fee of £535.00

Places will be available on a 'first come, first served' basis.

The programme is for experienced Therapists/Hygienists. It is important that the course is followed by clinical experience, with at least 10 supervised cases before independent practice.
